I.

The first movement is tiltled From Within the Fog. This movement is about your journey through the fog filled forest while seeing things out of the corner of your eye. You feel safe for a time but then, right when you turn your head to look, POOF, it’s gone, and you are left again in the fog. All alone. No one around.

II.

The second movement is titled Stories from Lands Forgotten. This movement is supposed to tell you of all the weird and wild stories you hear about from these lands. With creepy and unsettling music, you feel like something is always watching. Always.

III.

The third movement is titled Picnic in the Dark Meadow. You finally find your way out of the fog into a clearing where you feel it is nice and safe. The landscape surrounding you is beautiful, so you let your guard down. The wrong thing to do in these woods. This movement definitely has the least amount of contrabassoon, but this is for a reason. The contrabassoon being representative of all the things in the shadows, only pops out a few times to remind us that they are there. Always lurking. Always watching. Always waiting. You go on enjoying your time, until it happens. You go straight from movement three in four

IV.

The fourth and final movement is titled Dancing with the Shadows. It starts off with a fun, but creepy, circus feel. They’re taunting you. You let your guard down and now they have taken advantage of that. The spinning contrabassoon melodies make you feel surrounded. Because you are. Right as you think your safe, they go in for the final blow. Hypnotizing you with a beautiful, fun, and exotic dance. And just like that, you’re gone. Into nothing. And they have won.
